Michael Omer:
REVIEW OF UNWRITTEN, UNPLUGGED & UNSIGNED
PIZZA ON THE PARK
WEDNESDAY 9TH JUNE 2010
"a talented musician…perfectly timed and witty"
DAILY TELEGRAPH
"Michael Omer's Unwritten, Unplugged & Unsigned cabaret show formed part of Mthe final closing season at the legendary Pizza on the Park venue in London's Knightsbridge. His show on June 9th, this time went without incident - the last one in April having been severely curtailed after seventeen minutes by a fire alert - and played to an excellent house of regulars and new visitors.
The programme was made up of his usual blend of original jazz numbers, and songs - the biggest hit being the 'I Can't Remember Names' song which closed the first set. This humorously explored the common situation of trying to remember people's names at a party, with a liberal dose of good humoured bitching along the way!
The second set had a some beautifully contrasted piano numbers and original songs, with a couple of standards thrown in, ending with the now customary high-wire, high-octane improvised 'Instant Musical' using as it's 'book' storylines suggested by the evening's highly imaginative audience - this time exploring animal festishism and an unusual love affair on the tennis court! We are unlikely to see this transfer to the West End any time soon, but it truly went down a storm. Some of the first set 'stand-up' routine might have been pruned a little, but this was a rich and enjoyable evening, which delighted all who came to experience for the last time, the special atmosphere at this unique venue.
The good news is that the enterprising Pizza Express is switching it's cabaret operation to an exciting new venue only 1.4 miles away, just off Sloane Square. The Pheasantry in nearby King's Road will see Michael's next cabaret show, on September 22nd, at what promises to be an equally intimate and special venue - DON'T MISS IT!"
