Directed in 1991 by the late, intuitive and inspirational writer & director Marilyn Fox, E Nesbitt's story was adapted for the screen by legendary children's writer Helen Cresswell, sadly also no longer with us. It was so successful that BBC Television commissioned a sequel, 'Return of the Psammead' screened in 1993. Popularity for this series has spread far and wide - in the US it was retitled 'The Sand Fairy'. This was one of several collaborations between Michael Omer and his then wife.
