Commissioned by: Gaynor Barrett for '38 Devonshire Street'
Instrumentation: Violin & Piano
Duration: 10:13
Performance Details: Premiered May 7, 2009, at the Florence Hall, RIBA, Portland Place, London
Programme Notes:
At first glance, a beautiful birch forest, which then imperceptibly draws us into its secret inner world. A world, which, as it closes in around us, and the clear azure sky recedes above us, begins to enchant and bewitch, as it pulls us further into a land of no return. But this is a place where world-weary melancholy may find hope and solace, where perhaps something lost is re-found, or a love reborn.
Scored for violin and piano, and performed by Siân Philipps & Michael Omer
